Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Yildirim Demiroren has resigned from his post with immediate effect.
Demiroren revealed in a statement that he will be quitting his role in the TFF after a conflict of interest following the acquisition of Turkey’s only legal sports betting company İddaa by Demirören Holding, chaired by him.
“I have decided to leave this national duty, which I carried out honorably and proudly until today in order to prevent any shadows and debates in Turkey’s public and the international arena,” Demirören said.
Demiroren has been in charge of the football federation since February 2012.
The new president will be elected in June 2019, the candidates have yet to be revealed but a new manager for Turkey has already been selected; Senol Gunes who replaced Mircea Lucescu.
Vice President Hüsnü Güreli will temporarily take charge until the elections in June.

Demirören Holding, controls major media outlets in Turkey, including Hürriyet, Milliyet, Hürriyet Daily News, and Posta newspapers as well as TV channels Kanal D and CNN Türk.
The top bid to operate İddaa on February 13 was made by Şans Girişim, a venture including Demirören Holding and U.S. company Scientific Games.
