Nigeria International John Obi Mikel Officially Unveiled As Trabzonspor After Signing Two-Year Deal

Nigeria international John Obi Mikel was officially unveiled as a Trabzonspor player on Saturday at the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Facilities Football Coordination Center

The Nigeria international penned a two-year contract at a signing ceremony that featured club president Mehmet Alioglu.

The 32-year-old told reporters why he decided to make the transfer revealing that he did not realise just how big of a club Trabzonspor were until he came to see the region in person.

”I would like to thank our President for his nice words. When I came to Trabzonspor, I saw how big a club it was with my own eyes,” Mikel said.

”I know that Mr. President has made the club stable since he took office and brought Trabzonspor to the places it deserved again.

”I will do everything I can for this team structure consisting of young and talented players, both in and out of the field, whether it be experience or determination and challenge.”

Mikel will begin training with his new team from Monday 5 August ahead of preseason preparations.

Trabzonspor kick off their Super Lig campaign on Sunday 18 August away to Kasimpasa.

The Black Sea based side will take on Sparta Prague in the Europa League third qualifying round on 8 August.

Mikel will not be ready in time for feature against the Czech giants.

The experienced midfielder spent last season at Championship outfit Middlesbrough and was given extended leave by Trabzonspor due to his African Cup of Nations duties.
