Man City Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan Signs New Contract To 2023

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has signed a new four-year contract until 2023.

Gundogan struck a deal with City on Thursday after lengthy negotiations over the course of the summer.

The midfielder of Turkish origin had just one-year remaining on his contract prior to signing the new contract.

Gundogan revealed that he is delighted to have reached an agreement with City and that he has really enjoyed playing for the club over the past three seasons.

‘I am very happy to have signed the new contract,” Gundogan told mancity.com.

“I have hugely enjoyed the last three years here at City and everyone at the Club has helped make me feel at home from my very first day.”

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder also described playing for City as a ‘privilege’ and that he loves the style of play that Pep Guardiola has installed.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of this team, playing the style of football we do and winning trophies. It’s very difficult to do that and I’m delighted to be a part of it,” he added.

“I’m really excited about what we can go on to achieve in the next few seasons.”

Gundogan joined the Citizens from Borussia Dortmund for £25m [BBC] in 2016.

The 28-year-old has scored 17 goals in 115 appearances for the reigning Premier League champions winning a total of five trophies during his time at the club.

Gundogan became the first player of Turkish origin to lift the Premier League title over the 2017-18 season and repeated the feat last term.
