Leicester City Boss Brendan Rodgers Makes Frank Assessment On Caglar Soyuncu Who Has ‘Big Boots To Fill’ With Harry Maguire Leaving

Leicester City manager opened up about Caglar Soyuncu in his weekend pre-match press conference on Thursday.

The Turkey international has started the first two games on the season putting on impressive displays in the goalless draw against Wolves and the 1-1 draw against Chelsea last week.

Rodgers revealed that he has been impressed with how Soyuncu has filled the void left by Harry Maguire – who joined Manchester United this summer.

The Foxes boss described Soyuncu as being a modern centre-half who has pace and is good on the ball.

“Very (good). Again another player I was impressed with when I came in. it’s only when you work closely that you see his qualities. They are big boots to fill with Harry (Maguire) going but he’s done brilliantly since he has come in,” Rodgers said.

“For the modern day centre-half, he’s what you want, he quick and he can play. He has started the first two games very well and it’s now about keeping his focus for the rest of the season.”

BBC Radio Leicester reporter Matt Piper who covered the game awarded the centre-back with the Man of the Match award.

The 23-year-old also had impressive stats against the Blues winning three aerial duals, making five clearances, two interceptions, blocks and tackles.

Leicester fans were so impressed that they voted him Man of the Match with a huge majority – although I suspect Turkish Twitter may just have played a helping hand.
