Galatasaray left-back Omer Bayram made some interesting revelations in his latest interview regarding his youth.

Bayram is a Turkey international but was born in Breda, Netherlands and grew up alongside Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.

The Breda boys remain friends to this day.

Bayram revealed that the 1.93m tall defender who towers over most players today only started growing in his late teenage years.

The Lions man is just 1.75m but claimed that Van Dijk and him were the same height aged 15.

“He only got tall late on, I remember when we was like 14 or 15 being the same height,” Bayram said.

It also turns out that Van Dijk has a soft spot for Bayram’s mothers cooking, in particular, fried potatoes and the traditional Turkish beans dish ‘kuru fasulye’.

“We used to play all day all night on the streets, he used to come round ours after and loved my mum’s fried potatoes and kuru fasulye,” he added.

The best way to describe this dish would be something similar to baked beans but with meat and some additional spices and herbs added to the mix served on a bed of rice and usually accompanied by a dollop of yogurt.
