Arsenal bowed out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday after losing to Liverpool on penalties at Anfield.

Mesut Ozil started for the Gunners after not featuring for the previous six games.

The playmaker of Turkish origin made his presence felt putting on an impressive display and provided an assist in regulation time.

Ozil was taken off on 65 minutes when the score was 4-4.

The game ended 5-5 before heading to a penalty shoot-out.

Ozil reacted to the result by praising the traveling fans and reflecting on what was a ‘crazy’ game before shifting focus to the Wolves match.

Emery praised Ozil after the game and revealed that he took his star man off early so that he did not get tired – perhaps a hint that the playmaker could feature in his second Premier League game of the season against Wolves.

“He played very well,” Emery said after the match. “He used his skills to help the team and was always positive. ‘The substitution was decided before the match so he didn’t get tired.”

In total Ozil has made just three appearances in all competitions this term, providing one assist.
