Arsenal take on Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium in their first game back following the inaugural Premier League winter break.

Playmaker of Turkish origin Mesut Ozil will start his 20th game in all competitions – 16th in the Premier League – for the Gunners.

Ozil enjoyed his winter break with a short holiday in Turkey where he met up with Mohamed Elneny who is on loan at Besiktas and with the Arsenal team at their warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

The 31-year-old missed much of the start of the season under former manager Unai Emery but returned to the fold following the appointment of Mikel Arteta.

Ozil will be hoping to open his goal-scoring account this season and add to his assist tally (2).

Arteta will be without Cedric Soares, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney.

Ozil will be deployed in his favored No 10 role with Aubameyang and Pepe out wide and Nketiah upfront. Meanwhile, Alexander Lacazette has been named on the bench.

Arsenal have won 13 of their last 14 Premier League games against Newcastle.

Newcastle are on a run of seven successive league defeats at the Emirates.
