Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar gave a response to Altay Bayindir, a recent signing to the team, who named him as his favorite goalkeeper.

Bayindir, who has yet to make an appearance for United, expressed his admiration for van der Sar during a recent interview.

“My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younger, I watched a lot of games of Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him,” Bayindir said in an interview with the club.

Van der Sar revealed that he is looking forward to seeing Bayindir play but that he currently rates Andre Onana as being a better goalkeeper.

The blunt response was as follows: “Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!”

Van der Sar did however, reveal they would have a chat about goalkeeping.

Meanwhile, Andre Onana, United’s current first-choice goalkeeper is facing a decision about whether to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Cameroon.

Onana, who recently came out of international retirement, is expected to be included in the squad, but it remains unclear if he will commit to the tournament.

The keeper picked up an injury while on international duty with Cameroon and it is unknown whether he will be fit for the Everton game next week.

Bayindir meanwhile, starred in the 3-2 victory over Germany in an international friendly.

Bayindir has yet to make his debut for United but is hoping to break into the team soon.
