Arda Güler’s year at Real Madrid ended with a bittersweet taste. Though fulfilling his dream of joining the white giants, injuries have kept him from making his debut. However, optimism remains as 2024 dawns.
Despite ongoing training stints during Christmas break, a definitive return date still eludes Güler.

His predicted first official game of 2024, on January 3rd against Mallorca, might be too soon, considering his solo training session before Real Madrid’s December 20th match according to Marca.
Participation in the Saudi Arabian Super Cup (starting January 10th) could now be the most likely after being reintegration into group training the more realistic target.
Güler’s 2023 was punctuated by four injury setbacks:
August 14th: Knee surgery after US tour injury.
September 26th: Muscle injury before Sevilla game.
November 30th: Back on the field for solo training.
November 10th: Muscle relapse, halting group training return.
However, Carlo Ancelotti remains a pillar of support, assuring Güler that his future is secure. Ancelotti even referenced his own career, overcoming a two-year playing hiatus at 21 to make a strong comeback.
The upcoming Copa del Rey offers potential minutes for Güler, and a good opportunity to build confidence for the European Championship in Germany. Turkey’s manager, Vincenzo Montella, shares Ancelotti’s faith, having visited Valdebebas to reiterate his support.
Despite whispers of a possible January loan due to Madrid’s competition and Güler’s lack of playing time, both the club and the player firmly reject such a move. They remain committed to making this dream a reality.
Güler’s Real Madrid journey might be on hold, but the new year brings renewed hope and opportunities. 2024 could be the year he finally dons the white shirt and showcases his talent on the grandest stage.
