Verona Target Rangers Defender in Potential January Move

Serie A’s Hellas Verona are hot on the heels of Rangers’ Ridvan Yilmaz, with negotiations reportedly “very active” for a January transfer, according to Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio.

Yilmaz’s journey at Ibrox has been a curious one. Signed for £4 million, he found favor under neither Giovanni van Bronckhorst nor Michael Beale, often overshadowed by Borna Barisic.

Di Marzio wrote the following regarding Verona interest in Yilmaz: “Verona very active, with incoming and outgoing negotiations, in these first hours of the January transfer market.

“The yellow and blues have targeted Ridvan Yilmaz, a Turkish left back born in 2001 owned by Glasgow Rangers.”

Yet, recent performances under Philippe Clement have hinted at Yilmaz’s true potential.

Barisic’s inconsistent form and expiring contract make this the perfect opportunity to hand Yilmaz a sustained run in the team. He’s demonstrably capable of playing at a high level, seamlessly fitting into Clement’s system.

Letting Yilmaz go mid-season would leave Rangers dangerously thin at left-back and force them back into the transfer market.

Clement’s arrival seems to be unlocking Yilmaz’s potential, and giving him a real chance to prove his worth could save Rangers both money and regret.

Yilmaz has started the last two games for the Scottish giants and provided an assist in the latest win over Kilmarnock.

Rangers paid £4m for Yilmaz and he still under contract until 2027.
