Sivasspor’s midfield jewel, 17-year-old Yunus Emre Konak, is poised for a meteoric rise to the English Premier League.
Turkish-Football can confirm that club president Mecnun Otyakmaz said a principle agreement with Brentford for the talented youngster, marking a significant chapter in Konak’s burgeoning career.
Otyakmaz acknowledged Konak’s rapid ascent, attracting the attention of numerous clubs with his impressive performances. Brentford emerged victorious in the pursuit, submitting an official offer that ultimately led to the agreement.
While testimonial and other details are still being finalized, the transfer is expected to be completed during the upcoming January transfer window.
Konak’s journey is as remarkable as his talent. I included the young midfielder as one of my three picks in The Guardian‘s “60 best young talents of world football”, 2006 edition, he honed his skills in Batman Tüpraşspor before joining Sivasspor’s youth academy in 2018.
This season, he seamlessly transitioned to professional football, playing every Super League match for Sivasspor. His international pedigree is equally impressive, featuring in six matches for Turkey’s U18 and U21 teams.
Sivasspor, while acknowledging the loss of their rising star, expressed gratitude for Konak’s contributions. Otyakmaz’s parting words speak volumes: “Thank you, Yunus Emre, for your contribution to Sivasspor so far.”
Konak’s move to Brentford promises to be a thrilling next chapter. The Premier League beckons, and the world awaits to witness the unfolding brilliance of this Turkish prodigy.
The 17-year-old has one assists in 17 appearances for Sivasspor in the Super Lig this season.
The young midfielder is hoping to make the Turkish national team squad for Euro 2024 this summer. He has yet to break through to the senior side but has attracted the attention of manager Vincenzo Montella.
