Despite the lure of the starting XI, Manchester United’s new goalkeeper, Altay Bayındır, remains grounded. Joining from Fenerbahce in the summer, the 25-year-old Turk knew he’d be deputy to Andre Onana.
While eager to prove himself, Bayındır emphasizes the support and hard work that define his United experience so far.

Bayındır arrived alongside Onana, both tasked with bolstering United’s shaky defense. Onana quickly took the reins, and Bayındır found himself waiting for his debut.
Yet, with Onana’s departure to the Africa Cup of Nations, Bayındır finally gets his chance against Newport County in the FA Cup.
Some might call it an unfair delay, but Bayındır exudes calm determination. In a recent interview, he spoke less of frustration and more of solidarity with his teammate, highlighting the strong bond within the goalkeeping unit.
“All the goalkeepers, their character is very nice. We are always positive. Of course, we are fighting [to be] on the pitch, because everyone wants to play with the team in the stadium,” Bayindir said in an interview with the official Manchester United website.
“But we have a good energy. It doesn’t matter who is playing, because we will, of course, support them every time.
“Team spirit is very important, you know? If we are doing this, we can be successful in the game, it’s very important. I think if we’re always doing that, we can always go up.
“We are fighting [to be the best] in the training and when we are going outside, we are best friends. We have a very good energy because, I already said this, it’s very important. Team, spirit, soul. But everyone I think inside has a clear heart.
“Our position is a little bit different and difficult for us. But if you are doing well, everyone is OK. We are friendly, we are always positive. Everyone wants to play.
“When we are going out for dinner, we are always together. It’s very good. We will continue with this feeling because we are a very big family.”
Bayındır’s wait could extend further depending on Cameroon’s AFCON performance. Onana’s potential absence could see Bayındır facing Premier League giants Wolves, West Ham, and Aston Villa.
A daunting prospect, but for Bayindir it’s an opportunity to showcase his talent and prove his worth to the Reds faithful.
With 145 senior appearances under his belt, Bayındır is no rookie. He arrives at Old Trafford ready and hungry, but also understanding the pecking order.
And while every goalkeeper dreams of the starting role, Bayındır’s commitment to the team and unwavering professionalism set him apart.
