Arda Guler’s early days at Real Madrid were challenging, but the young midfielder has recently turned a corner. His impressive performance and winning goal in his first La Liga start against Real Sociedad delighted everyone at the club.
Guler, who joined Real Madrid last summer from Fenerbahce, could have easily ended up at Barcelona. However, the allure of Real Madrid proved too strong.

“When my father called me and told me that Real Madrid wanted me and were interested in me, I was very excited, very happy,” Guler told Kafa Sports (via Diario AS).
“It all came a little too soon for me. That’s why I was so excited. Why did I choose Madrid? From a young age, many children dream of playing for Madrid, the biggest club in the world.
“They are like a family and offered me a long-term project. As soon as we sat down at the table, everything was decided. It was very fast.”
Guler spoke of his childhood idolization of Real Madrid and his excitement to train alongside legendary players like Luka Modric.
In fact, the Spanish giants told him that Modric would help him settle in and train him up.
“I used to watch Madrid videos on YouTube, and now I train with them. Madrid told me that (Luka) Modric would help me. I was very impressed because he’s an incredible player and he’s still an incredible player,” he added.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti also played a crucial role in Guler’s decision. “He called me three times before coming to play here, he even asked me to promise him that I would come,” he said.
“I address him with great respect. We talk a lot, I ask him what I can do to play more, how I can improve. We all want to play more. He gives me advice.”
Guler’s recent success suggests a bright future under Ancelotti’s guidance. Overcoming initial struggles, he’s embracing the opportunity to learn from the best and contribute to Real Madrid’s success.
Real face Cadiz next in the La Liga on Saturday, Guler will be hoping to play after his impressive full debut last week.
