Galatasaray Discloses Ilkay Gundogan’s Salary in Official Announcement

Galatasaray publicly revealed the financial details of İlkay Gündoğan’s contract after signing the German midfielder from Manchester City on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old, who will earn a net guaranteed fee of €4.5 million for each of the next two seasons, completed his move before the Turkish transfer window closed.

In a statement posted on the official Galatasaray website, the club detailed the agreement, writing: “An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club Limited regarding the free transfer of professional footballer İlkay Gündoğan. A contract has been signed with the footballer, valid until the end of the 2026/2027 season.”

The transfer marks the second time Gündoğan has left Manchester City in three years. After captaining the team to a historic treble in 2023, he joined Barcelona before returning to the Etihad Stadium last season.

In his second spell, he made 54 appearances but struggled to replicate his earlier form and found himself lower on the team’s pecking order.

In a farewell message to fans on social media, Gündoğan explained his decision, stating: “The reason why I’m leaving is very simple: I still want to play football as often as possible, because that’s what I love the most.”

He also expressed his desire to play for a Champions League club and revealed that Galatasaray was his “childhood favorite club, in a country that means so much to me.” Gündoğan, who won 14 trophies during his time at City, concluded by thanking his teammates, the club, and manager Pep Guardiola.
