Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has reportedly turned down a high-profile approach from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, choosing to remain with the “Lions” despite the lure of a move to London.

The revelation comes amid a turbulent season for Tottenham, who are currently embroiled in an uncharacteristic Premier League relegation battle. Following the departure of Igor Tudor, the North London club reportedly held intensive talks with Buruk before ultimately appointing Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The “Unfinished Business” Factor

According to reports originating from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato and confirmed by Fanatik, Tottenham officials reached out to Buruk in recent hours to discuss an immediate move to the English capital. However, the 52-year-old tactician, whose current contract in Istanbul runs until the summer of 2026, was unwilling to walk away from his post mid-season.

“Okan Buruk rejected Tottenham,” the report stated, citing the manager’s refusal to “leave the team halfway” through a campaign where Galatasaray is pursuing a historic fourth consecutive Süper Lig title and making significant waves in the UEFA Champions League.

A Manager in High Demand

Buruk’s tactical success—including three consecutive league titles and a reputation for high-pressing, attacking football—has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after coaching profiles. Beyond the interest from the Premier League, clubs in Serie A (notably Lazio) and the Saudi Pro League (Al-Ittihad) have also reportedly been monitoring his situation.

Fluent in Italian from his playing days at Inter Milan, Buruk’s ability to communicate across cultures and his proven track record of winning trophies have placed him at the top of several shortlists for the upcoming 2026 summer window.

Restoring the “Galatasaray DNA”

For the Galatasaray faithful, Buruk’s decision to stay is a massive boost of confidence. The manager has frequently spoken about his deep emotional connection to the club, stating in recent press conferences that “the responsibility at Galatasaray is very great” because he is a lifelong fan of the team he now leads.

By rejecting Spurs, Buruk has signaled that his immediate priority is completing the “mission” in Istanbul: securing another domestic championship and furthering Galatasaray’s rise as a powerhouse on the European stage.
