Demba Ba – 'Bilic was right to not start me'

Beşiktaş striker Demba Ba revealed that he agreed with head coach Slaven Bilic not giving him the start in the 2-0 win over Trabzonspor at the Avni Aker stadium.

Ba was eventually brought on for Daniel Opare on 57 minutes and scored just 63 seconds after coming on.

“This is a tough place for any team, I was not surprised to start on the bench, with the foreign player restrictions it made sense in terms of team selection,” Ba was quoted as saying on Lig Tv.

The Senegalese international also stated that he was delighted to break a personal record in terms of league goals scored in a single season.

The goal was the fastest goal by a substitute in this Süper Lig campaign and also marked the Senegalese internationals 17th league goal – a career record.

“I scored and we won, of course I am delighted, we proved today that we are genuine contenders in the title race,” he added.

The win over Trabzonspor ended the Black Sea Storms six game winning streak at home – their best home run since 2012.

Ba now has has a total of 25 goals and seven assists in all competitions for the Black Eagles since joining from Chelsea on a £6 million move in the summer.

Beşiktaş moved back into first place, overtaking Fenerbahçe who beat last placed 4-3 on Saturday.
