Brendan Rodgers & Emre Can slammed by Liverpool legend Steve Nicol

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has criticised Brendan Rodgers for his team selection and Emre Can’s performance against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

“In fact, Brendan is really struggling. Liverpool have to get some results very soon to get the fans back onside,” Nicol said speaking to TalkSport.

Nicol went on the criticise the performance of the players.

“Emre Can was a disgrace, he didn’t get out of trot. Lazar Markovic looked lightweight at best and was man handled every time he touched the ball. Javi Manquillo was chasing Marcelo’s number all night.”

Can made 52 passes during the match with a pass accuracy of 92.3 percent.

The 20-year-old midfielder also won all three tackles he attempted and recovered possession eight times from the opposition.

Can who moved to Liverpool in a £9.75m deal from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer has missed much of the early part of the season with injury.

The powerful midfielder recently recovered from an injury which had ruled him out for six weeks.

Emre Can is expected to start on the bench this weekend for Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea in the Premier League.

  1. nicol is a bitter miserable ginger whinger..can had a good game anyone who watched the game could see that.Nicol is bitter he missed out on the huge wages and thinks he was some kind of legend .He was slightly above average .

    • Are you off your cake, you may disagree with his comments but you cannot deny his ability and contribution to LFC as a player. I think he’s the only fullback to win the FA Player of the Year award and he did it twice if I’m not mistaken.

  2. Most people with a brain stopped listening to the rubbish that comes out of Nicol’s mouth quiet a while ago. The man is physically incapable of making sense.

  3. The stats don’t lie let alone watching the match itself and to criticise BR, well the so called 1st team lost 3 nil at home the so called 2nd team lost 1 nil away, that says it all. And just to add to that the 2nd string team were made up of 8 full internationals and 3 youth internationals.
