Beşiktaş midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup has claimed that Fenerbahçe’s Emre Belözoğlu attempted to setup a fight against himself and Veli Kavlak after the Istanbul derby.
According to Habertürk Emre told Kavlak, “We are going to take this outside.”
Kavlak was reported to have replied that he fears nobody and would fight him anywhere.
Özyakup claimed Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Volkan Demirel joined Belözoğlu at half time and offered to fight Kavlak and himself after the game outside of the stadium.
“Who are you guys calling people out for fights, you are telling us, ‘let’s meet outside’ but I wonder how you are going to look me in the face when we are training together for the Turkish national team,” Özyakup was quoted as saying by Habertürk.
Fenerbahçe won the heated derby at the Atatürk Olympic stadium 2-0 thanks to goals from Emmanuel Emenike and Moussa Sow.
The game was overshadowed by Olcay Şahan’s sending off and Belözoğlu reportedly swearing multiple times at Beşiktaş manager Slaven Bilic.
Belözoğlu was ruled out with injury for two weeks following the game.
