Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil would be far more effective if he were playing with more consistent strikers according to the Metro.
The report states that Özil has created over 150 goal-scoring opportunities in the Premier Leaguer however, his teammates have only managed to convert 14 of them into goals.
The 26-year-old has recently stated that he prefers to assist a team-mate over scoring goals.
“My aim is to help the team and I’ll do all I can to achieve that. In truth I’m more the sort of player who doesn’t really go for goal, I tend to look for my team-mates and think, ‘Can I play this pass?’.” Özil was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Özil played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old playmaker made the joint highest amount of key-passes in the game along with Alexis Sanchez and Roberto Firmino. Özil also made the highest number of successful dribbles (3).
Özil also provided three accurate crosses and maintained a passing accuracy of 84.4%. The World Cup winner received a rating of 7.31 from whoscored.
The Gunners have gotten off to a slow start in the Premier League this season having just won one of their first three games.
