The Newcastle legend Micky Quinn has stated that Mesut Özil does not have the quality to play at a top Premier League side.
The comments come ahead of the Magpies clash with Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.
“He’s too slow for the Premier League, he’s too one paced,” Quinn told talkSPORT.
“He doesn’t dictate the pace of a Premier League game.
“He drifts in an out of a game with little flashes of brilliance, but this is the Premier League and he needs to do it regularly.”
Özil was described as his sides ‘weak link’ according to the BBC Radio 5 pundit Steve Claridge earlier this week.
Gary Neville also criticised the 26-year-old saying, “[Özil and Alexis Sanches] Good players, fantastic players but I don’t think Özil has ever taken responsibility for his teammates.”
Özil played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old playmaker made the joint highest amount of key-passes in the game. Özil also made the highest number of successful dribbles (3).
The Gunners have gotten off to a slow start in the Premier League this season having just won one of their first three games.
