Turkish international Enes Ünal has revealed the reason behind Manchester City loaning him out for two-seasons.

Ünal joined City on a £2 million move over the summer transfer window but was loaned out to Belgium side Genk on a two-year deal.

“The problem is that in England they are very strict on players from outside the EU that I need to play 70 percent of games for the national team over two years and obviously that is no easy task but that is why I have joined Genk on a two-year loan,” Ünal told NTV Spor.

City have the option to bring Ünal back after a season however, the 18-year-old striker revealed that he wants to prove himself in Belgium before returning to England.

“The football in Belgium is high tempo,” he added.

“I have been played as second striker and as the main striker, I am happy with both positions and scoring or providing assists. I want to prove myself here before returning.”

Ünal has made three appearances for the Belgium top-tier side this season playing a total of 115 minutes.

Despite being 18-year-old Ünal already has an international cap for the senior Turkish national team and is currently on national duty with the U21 side.

Ünal is rated as one of the brightest prospects in Turkish football and currently holds the record as being the youngest player to have ever scored in the Super League aged just 16 against Galatasaray in 2013.
