Turkey should play foreign players in the national team like Germany says Fatih Terim [divider]
Turkey should play foreign players in the national team like Germany according the Crescent-Stars manager Fatih Terim.
“I look at Germany they had 5-6 foreign naturalised players in the national team and now they have 8-9,” Terim said.
“We should be open to having foreign and naturalised players in our national team.
“Currently foreign players must be playing in Turkey for five years before they can play for us, FIFA actually have a similar rule as well.
“But what I am saying is that in a globalised world we should be able to play who we want.
“We believe in all our players but anyone who wants to play for us can, anyone who feels that they are a Turk are a Turk.”
Despite being of non-German origin all the players in the German national team were either born or grew up in Germany.
The players of foreign origin representing the German national team received their footballing education in Germany.
Terim’s proposal however, would see players neither born, raised or developed in Turkey represent the Crescent-Stars.
Meanwhile Terim has decided to ignore the players of Turkish origin playing across Europe in his national team setup.
There are 19 players eligible to play for the Crescent-Stars in the Bundesliga but only one was selected for the last national team call up.
