Jason Denayer has stated that he decided to leave Manchester City following the arrival of Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia for £31 million.
The 20-year-old has stated that he needs to play first team football in order to keep his place in the Belgium national team.
“When they [Manchester City] bought Nicolas Otamendi for £31m, I knew it would be difficult for me,” Denayer told voetbalnieuws.
“The forthcoming Euros are very important. I want to be there, and it all comes down to being on the field this season. Marc Wilmost said that to me when I was with him, so I knew I had to get away.”
The 20-year-old defender has found himself played in an unorthodox role as a right-back but has managed to keep Galatasaray veteran full-back Sabri Sarıoğlu out of the team.
Denayer has had no trouble settling into life in Turkey in fact he has already developed a taste for one of the most popular drinks in the country; tea or çay (chai) as the locals call it.
The young defender shared an Instagram post having a traditional ‘cuppa’ alongside the caption: “çay… #do#you#think#there#is#better?#i#dont#think#so.”
