West Ham manager Slaven Bilic revealed that he tried to sign Beşiktaş winger Gökhan Töre at the start of the season in an interview with Fanatik.
Bilic also stated that he is a big fan of the Turkish international winger and that he would love to see him at West Ham.
“I have always said that Gökhan Töre could play at any European team he has both the quality and the potential,” Bilic said.
“After agreeing terms with West Ham I told the board that I want him and I strongly believe he would add a lot to the team and be a success in England.”
Bilic was full of praise for the Turkish international but stated that the deal fell through as the Hammers were unable to strike a deal.
“The fans would have loved him but it did not happen we could not agree a deal,” he added.
Bilic knows Töre well having coached him for two years during his time at Beşiktaş over the past two seasons.
The explosive winger had the best season of his career under the stewardship of Bilic and has hit the ground running again this season.
The 23-year-old has five assists and a goal in eight league games this season – the highest assist record in the league.
The Metro report that Arsenal are preparing a £14.5 million move for the Beşiktaş winger and that the north London based side have been keeping close tabs on him.
