The former Manchester United star Roy Keane has stated that he has always been a fan of Mesut Özil, even when the 27-year-old was being heavily criticised last season.
Keane went on to praise Özil’s quality and say that the Germany international has settled into life in North London.
“I’ve always liked him even last year when people were questioning him. He has settled into the club. He has the quality,” Keane told ITV Sport.
Özil scored the Gunners opening goal during their 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern Munich beat Olympiakos 4-0 in the groups other game meaning Arsenal having to beat the Greek giants on the road by two goals.
The former Werder Bremen midfielder does not have the most prolific scoring record but he has netted important goals this season against Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Özil’s latest goal could end up helping the Gunners reach the next round of the Champions League but they still have to beat Olympiakos in Greece if that is to happen.
Arsenal take on Norwich City next in the Premier League Özil is almost certain to start.
