Man United Boss Reveals Bayindir Will Get His Chance in Goal After Latest Onana Blunder

Manchester United manger Erik ten Hag has reassured Altay Bayindir that he will get his chance to play in goal for the first team.

The latest development follows Andre Onana’s poor display in the 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League match day 5 Group A clash in Istanbul on Wednesday evening.

The result could see United ending up being eliminated from the competition in the group stage.

Bayindir, who signed from Fenerbahce for £4.3 million in the summer, has yet to make his debut for the club, while Onana has started in all 20 of United’s matches this term.

United are bottom of Group A and have conceded 14 goals in five games, with Onana being responsible for a number of key goals.

Onana could miss up to six games during the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February if he plays for Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations but Bayindir will be hoping to break into the team before then.

Ten Hag made it clear that Bayindir will get his chance after the Galatasaray game and that he must be ready to take his chance when it comes.

“We are very happy with our keeper group,” Ten Hag was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News. “Andre, Altay, Tom (Heaton), as a group they do really well, they have good performances and they have to push each other.

“We are very pleased with Altay. He gets used to the Premier League, and he gets used to European football, which is tough when you are coming from Turkey but we are very pleased with the process. He is doing very well.

“He has to be patient but if he works well, if he keeps his progress, he will get his chances and he has to take this.”

Onana is expected to join Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations. Bayindir meanwhile, has been playing for the Turkish national team and featured in the 3-2 win over Germany and the 1-1 draw against Wales which guaranteed a first place finish in the Euro 2024 group.
