Per the source, one of Fellaini’s representatives informed the newspaper that he admires Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and that negotiations are progressing.
Fellaini’s respect for President Erdogan is reported in the article as being among the reasons he would consider making the move.
The report also claims that Fellaini’s family are keen on him playing in Turkey.
United and Trabzonspor have not yet been able to agree on a fee for the Belgium international with just over 12 months remaining on his contract.
ESPN do however, report that United boss Jose Mourinho wants to extend the midfielder’s deal.
Fellaini has also been closely linked with a move to China and recently hinted that he would be open to a move in the future.
Fellaini told VTM News: ‘In China? Why not? I’m now a Manchester United player, but I do not rule out such a transfer in the future.’
The powerful midfielder made 47 appearances for United in all competitions this season.
