Akturkoglu Wins Champions League Goal of the Week For Strike Against Man United

Galatasaray winger Kerem Akturkoglu’s stunning strike against Manchester United has been named the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Week.

Akturkoglu’s goal from 20 yards out earned Galatasaray a crucial 3-3 draw against Manchester United in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old’s strike was selected as the Goal of the Week ahead of three other nominees, including Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.

Akturkoglu’s goal came in the 71st minute and helped Galatasaray salvage a point after they had fallen behind 3-1. The draw leaves Galatasaray in contention for a place in the Champions League knockout stages, with one matchday remaining in Group A.

Galatasaray will travel to Copenhagen for their final group match on December 12th. They will need to win the match to go through, United meanwhile, face Bayern Munich and need to win and hope Galatasaray draw to progress to the next round.

Akturkoglu has six goals and seven assists in 24 appearances in all competitions this season.

The winger is expected to join the Turkish national team in Euro 2024 as well this summer after an impressive campaign.

Nicknamed the Turkish ‘Harry Potter’ for looking similar to the famous fictional character Akturkoglu also played an important role in Galatasaray winning the league title last season.
