Ex-Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes Emre Can is nearing a move to Serie A giants Juventus.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with an Anfield exit after failing to agree a new deal with Liverpool. Can has under five months left on his current contract and could end up leaving for free in the summer unless a new deal is struck.
According to the former Liverpool star and SkySports pundit Thompson, Can is likely to leave Liverpool unless a new deal is agreed in January.
“The Emre Can situation is a blot on the copybook as I think he has already agreed a move to Juventus,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
“Players are running the contracts down to get the big payday, like Sanchez did, and if it drags on beyond January then he is definitely not going to sign a new deal at Liverpool.”
Can has retained his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven despite the on-going contract dispute.
Liverpool are back in action tomorrow when they host West Brom at Anfield in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Reds next Premier League fixture is against Huddersfield on Tuesday evening.
