Germany got their defence of the World Cup off to the worst possible star after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Mexico.
Hirving Lozano’s first-half goal gave El Tri a 1-0 victory over Germany on Sunday, providing the first major surprise of the 2018 World Cup.
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil started for Germany and actually put on a pretty decent display compared to some of his teammates.
Ozil had a 90 percent pass completion rate and made four key passes but as is so often the case with the Arsenal man he divided opinion.
The playmaker of Turkish origin came under quite a lot of fire for his display on social media.
We take a look at some of the criticism leveled at him.
Do you think it is fair to blame Ozil?
Another Mesut Ozil disasterclass. Grown men still label him World Class.

Ozil allegedly plays for Arsenal and Germany. I have no proof over the last couple of seasons

Ozil looks as bleak as … well, as at the end of an Arsenal game.

Feel like I’m watching the same thing happen to Germany’s midfield that can happen to Arsenal’s when Ozil plays 10. Outnumbered and vulnerable to the counter.

Ozil actually doing fine as an individual but his ‘freedom’ has a significant structural cost. Lots to ponder for Emery.

Germany should sell Ozil
