Turkish teenager Arda Güler was named in Real Madrid’s squad for the first time this season ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
Real ended up being held to a goalless draw and Güler was an unused substitute but it marks his progression to being integrated into the team after a lengthy injury.
The 18-year-old, who joined Madrid from Fenerbahce for £17m in the summer, underwent knee surgery shortly after his transfer after picking up an injury in the US preseason tour.

Güler is now back in training and has moved one step closer to making his first appearance for Carlo Ancelotti’s side by earning a place in Sunday’s squad.
“He started training this week with the team,” Ancelotti said ahead of the game. “He is recovered but he lacks minutes.
“He will be in the squad. We are going to prepare a specific plan to improve his physical condition but the most important thing is that he has started to work with us and show his qualities.”
Güler is expected to be in the squad for the Champions League clash against Braga mid-week next and could end up making his debut in the Match Day 4 clash.
Real face Braga in Madrid on Wednesday in Group C. The Spanish giants are currently first in Group C after recording nine points after three games.
The 18-year-old is nearing making his debut as he has recovered and back to match fitness. Ancelotti does not want to rush him back until he is ready after his injury setbacks.
