Real Madrid has touched down in the United States for the Club World Cup, and new coach Xabi Alonso has already sent a strong message regarding the integral roles he envisions for two of his attacking talents: Vinicius Jr. and Arda Güler. With the team’s debut slated for next Wednesday, the 18th, Alonso wasted no time in outlining his initial plans.
Speaking upon the squad’s arrival in the U.S., Alonso confirmed the integration of key players, stating, “We arrived here and today Lunin, Vini Jr., and Arda are coming.”

His subsequent comments highlighted the immediate importance of the Brazilian and Turkish internationals.
“We’ll start building the team and we have three training sessions before the match. We’re coming with a lot of enthusiasm, with the desire to have a good tournament and to be able to reach the end,” Alonso added, underscoring the significance of their presence.
Vinicius Jr.’s continued prominence under Alonso was largely anticipated. However, the dynamics of his role, particularly in light of Kylian Mbappé’s Golden Boot-winning performance, remain a compelling question for the upcoming season.
The focus will be on how Alonso balances the two superstar forwards, or if he opts to fully entrust the attacking mantle to Mbappé.
For Arda Güler, Alonso’s arrival could be a significant turning point in his burgeoning career. Known for his faith in young talent, the Basque coach is expected to offer Güler more playing time than he received under Carlo Ancelotti.
Strong performances could even see the young Turk earn a regular starting spot in Alonso’s tactical setup.
However, Güler’s pathway to consistent minutes might face competition with the imminent arrival of Franco Mastantuono.
While Mastantuono won’t join the squad until August 14, missing preseason, both players are capable of operating in similar attacking areas.
This could set up a battle for positions, though their differing profiles suggest they could offer varied contributions to the team.
The Club World Cup presents a crucial opportunity for Arda Güler to make an early impression and stake his claim for a significant role in the new-look Real Madrid.
