Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he has been keeping tabs on Mesut Özil since watching him play for Werder Bremen.
The 27-year-old began his career at Schalke before moving over to Bremen. Özil was later picked up by Real Madrid when Jose Mourinho was appointed as manager.
Wenger went onto say that he could see Özil was a special player from a young age.
“The first time I saw him was at Werder Bremen,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
“He played as a left-winger and I could see straight away that there was something special there.”
Özil later joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for a club record £42 million back in 2013.
The Germany international won the Arsenal Vitality Player of the Month award for the past two consecutive months and has 12 assist in 13 Premier League appearances this season.
Arsenal take on Aston Villa this weekend in the Premier League as they look to build upon last weekends victory over Sunderland last weekend.
Özil has 12 assists and four goals in 21 appearances for Arsenal this season.
