Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen on a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s star centre-back Omer Toprak.
The Daily Star states that Simon Kjaer of Fenerbahce was also being considered by the French tactician however, Wenger wants to push ahead with a move for Toprak.
The Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi remains Arsenal’s primary target however, The Gunners have been unable to strike a deal with the La Liga giants.
Toprak did recently hint that he could leave the Bundesliga outfit over the summer transfer window.
The Turkey international was quoted by Turkish-Football.com as saying: “It is not certain whether I will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, we still have a month and anything could happen until them.”
The 27-year-old has no shortage of suitors and the Daily Star did report back in March that Toprak was a top Manchester Untied target. Toprak has years of Bundesliga and Champions League experience as well as international experience.
Arsenal take on last seasons champions Leicester City in their second game of the Premier League season this weekend.
