Arsenal were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against Dinamo Zagreb at the Maksimir stadium. The Croatian side pulled off one of the surprise results of the first round of Champions League group stage games.
Zagreb took an early lead thanks to an own goal from Oxlade Chamberlain. The Croatian side doubled their lead on 58 minutes when Fernandes found the back of the net. Second half substitute Theo Walcott gave Arsenal a glimmer of hope when he pulled one goal back on 79 minutes but it proved to be too little too late.
Özil received a rating of 6.4 from whoscored. The 26-year-old performed below his usually high standards providing just one key pass and taking one shot on target during the game. The World Cup winner maintained a passing accuracy of 78%.
Following the final whistle we took to Twitter to see how Özil’s latest performance went down on social media. Read a selection of what we found below:
Arsenal duo Mesut Özil and Mikel Arteta have completed 100% of their passes each so far vs. Dinamo Zagreb. pic.twitter.com/TcoSbVtYsu

Mesut Ozil. Gone from playing for Real Madrid, assisting Ronaldo and Benzema, to playing LWB in an Arsenal loss vs Zagreb. 🙂

There were also a number of critics bringing up the price factor and the perception that he does not play well in big games.
Mesut Ozil £42.5M vs £15M Entire Dinamo Zagreb Team
