Arsenal legend Martin Keown slams club over handling of Mesut Ozil

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has slammed his former side  over their handling of both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’s contracts.

Both Ozil and Sanchez’s contract’s expire in July 2018. Keown has stated that it is very unsettling for Arsenal to have two players who no longer want to be at the club.

“You need to be a band of brothers who want to stick together but it must be draining when you have two players who do not appear to want to be a part of it,” Martin Keown told the Daily Mail.

“It seems unprecedented that the contracts of two star players are running out at the same time.

“That situation should not have been allowed to develop.”

Ozil is currently sidelined with both a hamstring and back injury. The 28-year-old missed Arsenal’s defeat to West Brom and Germany’s victory over England.

Alexis Sanchez was taken off during the Gunners 3-1 defeat last weekend due to an ankle injury.

Ozil has recently been linked with a move to Fenerbahce by the Telegraph. However, the Germany international has denied reports linking him with a move away from Arsenal.

“The fact is I’ve still got a contract in London,” Ozil was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“To speculate now would be wrong. At the end of the season we will see, there will be talks. I’m very happy at Arsenal and in London.”

Ozil made the move from Real Madrid to Arsenal for a club record £42.4 million (BBC).

The Gunners have suffered four defeats in their last five Premier League games. Arsenal face third placed Manchester City in their next league fixture.
