Arsenal ‘Might Regret’ The Money Given To Mesut Ozil Claims Ray Parlour

Arsenal may be regretting handing Mesut Ozil a club record contract this year after talks with Aaron Ramsey over a new deal hit the rocks according to Ray Parlour.

The former Arsenal man told talkSPORT that he would ‘hate’ to see Ramsey leave.

The Wales international will be free to leave next summer unless he signs a new deal but Arsenal are refusing to match his wage demands.

Ozil became the top earner at Arsenal in January after agreeing to a £350,000-a-week deal with North London outfit.

Parlour feels that the Gunners have caused themselves long-term problems when dealing with contracts over players in the future after offering Ozil such a lucrative deal.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former midfielder said: “It’s down to money isn’t it.

“Arsenal gave that big contract to Ozil and Aaron’s representatives are saying they want the same, that Aaron influences games as much as Ozil does, he’s in the same situation with one year left on his contract and they went to be paid the same.

“Arsenal might have made a mistake by giving Ozil that much money and they might regret it, but it’s happened now, they’ve got to get on with it.

“But they don’t want to do the same again.

“Money is an awful thing sometimes because Aaron has been a great servant to the club and I would hate to see him go.

“He always pops up with the goals, at times he can be a bit more efficient with the ball and keep it simple, but he is a very talented player.

“But it’s a situation where both sides can be stubborn.”

The Gunners could end up losing Ramsey in January or for free next summer unless a compromise is reached.

Ozil meanwhile, still has another three-years remaining on his contract and is likely to remain the highest paid player at the club for the time being.
