Arsenal Need ‘A Couple Of Defenders’ Says David Seaman Amid Reports Of Transfer Talks With £35m Bundesliga Defender

Caglar Soyuncu

Arsenal legend David Seaman has opened up what he thinks about the current state of his former club.

Seaman emphasised that the Gunners need to strengthen their defence and advocated signing a ‘few defenders’.

The former keeper believes the Arsenal attack has ‘a lot of firepower’ but that it is lacking on the defensive end.

Arsenal recently signed experienced full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and have also been closely linked with Greek international Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Should the Papastathopoulos transfer go through, Seaman still thinks the team will need additional defenders.

“We need steel in the team, we need a couple of defenders, dominant defenders and a dominant midfield player,” Seaman told ESPN.

“I think the forward side of it, you can leave that alone because we’ve got a lot of firepower there.

“I’m just a little bit worried about the defence and the art of defending.”

The North London based outfit have been linked with a few defenders this window.

Turkish-Football reported that Freiburg centre-back Caglar Soyuncu is in talks with the Gunners but that they do face competition.

The Turkey international is valued in the region of £35m by the Bundesliga outfit, a fee has yet to be agreed.

“Sven Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund,” Dogru said.

“He first scouted him back in Germany.

“Sven is interested in Caglar, there are concrete talks, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed.

“We will see what happens next…

“What I will say regarding the Liverpool link is that there were four to five Premier League clubs scouting him over the international break,” he added.

“There are four Premier League sides who’ve made a move for Soyuncu, that we are in talks with.”
