Mesut Özil has stated that he must become more selfish if he is to score more goals for Arsenal.
The 26-year-old is known for his assist rate but only managed to scored five goals in 32 appearances for the Gunners last season. Özil had 27 goals in 159 games for Real Madrid and 16 goals in 108 matches for Werder Bremen.
“I think now and then I need to become a bit more selfish – then I’d definitely score more goals,” Özil was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
The World Cup winner has a total of six assist in 22 league appearances for the Gunners this season. Özil enjoyed a trophy-laden pre-season winning the Asia Barclays Trophy, Emirates Cup and Community Shield.
Arsenal have gotten off to a slow start in the Premier League this term having just won one of their first three games. The Gunners sit in ninth place with four points.
The 26-year-old joined Arsenal on a record £42.5 million transfer fee and still has three-years left on his contract.
