Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil has revealed that he believes that Manchester United will challenge for the title in the upcoming 2016-17 Premier League season.
During an interview with the German outlet Spox, the 27-year-old stated that both Man Utd and Manchester City will be ‘very strong’. Ozil went onto heap praise on Man City who signed two of his Germany international teammates, Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan earlier this summer.
“Manchester United and Manchester City are among the biggest clubs in England and will be very strong in the coming season,” Ozil told German website Spox.
“I am particularly pleased at City, where two of my team-mates from the German team, Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, are playing. They bring both a great quality and the Premier League will be even better for it.”
United have strengthened over the summer signing Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. City meanwhile have signed Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and John Stones.
Ozil is the favourite to once again be the Premier Leagues assist king. According to the Evening Standard, the bookmakers have set Ozil’s odds to be crowned assist king at 2/1. The 27-year-old recorded an incredible 19 assists for the Gunners last season, just one off matching Thierry Henry’s record of 20.
Arsenal take on Liverpool in their opening game of the season at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
