Arsenal star Mesut Özil would accept an offer from Fenerbahçe if he were to leave his current club according to his agent Dr Erkut Söğüt.

“We will see what happens at the end of the season but if he were to leave Fenerbahçe would be an option,” Söğüt told Vatan newspaper.

“At the end of the day it is a huge club and I think Özil would say yes to an offer if it came down to it but it is way too early to start talking about transfers.”

This is not the first time Özil has been linked with a move to the Istanbul giants. Fenerbahçe made an enquiry for the 26-year-old over the summer transfer window which the 26-year-old thanked the club for.

“The offer from Fenerbahçe was an honour but I want to continue in England for now,” Özil told the Sabah newspaper.

The World Cup winner grew up as a Fenerbahçe fan and is a member of the Turkish community of Germany.

Speaking to the Sabah newspaper Özil recently confirmed that he has always been a Yellow Canaries fan to the Turkish newspaper.

“Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahçe fan,” he said.

Özil is bi-lingual in Turkish – German and visits Turkey regularly to meet family but the £42.5 million record Arsenal transfer still has another three-years left on his contract.

Fenerbahçe made a number of high profile signings this summer including former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie but Özil is the highest paid player in the Gunners current squad and is reported to be happy at the club.

Arsenal take on reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on the weekend at Stamford Bridge – Özil is expected to start.
