Arsenal Star Reveals What Makes Mesut Ozil Special & That We Haven’t Seen His Best Yet

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has revealed what makes teammate Mesut Ozil so special for the North London based outfit.

The German defender praised Ozil’s vision and believes that he have not even seen the best of him just yet.

The playmaker of Turkish origin has more to give and could do with providing being at his best more consistently.

“Often it’s Mesut who is the creator and on Thursday he showed how lethal he can be in the final third,” Mertesacker was quoted as saying by Goal.

“He has that eye, that vision. It’s up to us to put him into the best possible position to be able to have maximum influence.

“We have to give him that platform in every match and Thursday was an example of why.

“It’s not just Mesut’s creativity that benefits us though, he’s also a threat when he penetrates the box and he came close to scoring in the first half too. It’s good to have that variety.”

Mertesacker added: “There’s still more to come from Mesut, as I’ve always said.

“There is so much potential there but he still has more to give. He was heavily involved in all four goals against CSKA and we need him to be as valuable as that in every single game.”

The 29-year-old setup three goals in the 4-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in the first leg on Thursday at the Emirates in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg clash.

Ozil was actually involved in all four goals against the Russians in what was a stellar display.

The playmaker was rested against Southampton in the Premier League on the weekend and will be available for the return tie against CSKA in Russia on Thursday.

Winning the Europa League is currently the most realistic chance Arsenal have of booking a place in the Champions League next season.

Finishing in the top-four in the Premier League looks increasingly unlikely as Arsenal are sixth in the standings, 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
