“He has that eye” – Arsenal star sends out warning to Premier League rivals regarding Mesut Ozil

Arsenal star centre-back Per Mertesacker has heaped praise on his teammate Mesut Ozil.

Mertesacker and Ozil played together for the Germany national team, at Werder Bremen and currently at Arsenal.

The towering defender will retire from professional football at the end of the season while Mesut Ozil recently penned a new four-year contract with the Gunners.

Mertesacker believes there still is allot more to come from Mesut Ozil in an Arsenal jersey. The 29-year-old has registered 14 assists and scored five goals so-far this season.

“Often it’s Mesut who is the creator and on Thursday he showed how lethal he can be in the final third,” Mertesacker was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

“He has that eye, that vision. It’s up to us to put him into the best possible position to be able to have maximum influence.

“We have to give him that platform in every match and Thursday was an example of why.

It’s not just Mesut’s creativity that benefits us though, he’s also a threat when he penetrates the box and he came close to scoring in the first half too. It’s good to have that variety.

“There’s still more to come from Mesut, as I’ve always said.

Mertesacker also believes Ozil can lead his side to Europa League glory.

“There is so much potential there be he still has more to give. He was heavily involved in all four goals against CSKA and we need him to be as valuable as that in every single game.”

Winning the Europa League is Arsenal’s only remaining route to playing UEFA Champions League football next season.

The Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United over the weekend. Arsenal take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.
