Arsenal suffer massive injury blow ahead of Atletico Madrid clash – Mesut Ozil also a doubt due to illness

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has provided injury updates regarding Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The French tactician spoke with reporters following the Gunners 4-1 win over West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Wenger has revealed that he is unsure whether Mesut Ozil will be available for selection Thursday night. Arsenal take on La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals this week.

Ozil missed Arsenal’s win over the Hammers due to an illness. Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed that Mkhitaryan will miss the Atletico clash while Jack Wilshere is an injury doubt.

“Jack had a training session today and he looked positive so he has a good chance to be available for Thursday,” Arsene Wenger told reporters on Saturday.

“Ozil was sickness [flu] so I cannot tell you much more about that. We will have to see how he recovers tomorrow.

“But Mkhitaryan won’t be available on Thursday.”

The Europa League is Arsenal’s last remaining hope of silverware this season. Furthermore, winning the competition will see the Gunners qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Manager Arsene Wenger will be keen to end his 22-year managerial career with a high having announced that he will be leaving at the end of the season.
