Arsenal team news: £40m superstar open to a new contract even if Arsene Wenger leaves
Arsenal’s superstar playmaker Mesut Ozil has stated that he is open to signing a new contract with the Gunners.
The World Cup winner’s Arsenal future has been cast in doubt as his current deal with the north London based club expires in July 2018.
Ozil told the German outlet Bild am Sonntag that he would stay at Arsenal even if Arsene Wenger leaves.
The 28-year-old was previously reported to be is waiting for a resolution regarding Wenger’s future before starting contract talks.
However, Ozil told Bild, “There were talks with the Arsenal management. However, I am currently concentrating on the current season, just like the Arsenal management.”
“Arsene Wenger was also one of the main reasons why I came to Arsenal. But I also know that in football things can sometimes move quickly and much differently to how you planned them.
“Therefore it would be wrong to say that my future only depends on the manager.”
