Arsenal team news: Wenger reveals major injury boost but will miss key names for West Ham clash

Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back from the shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United last weekend when they host West Ham United at the Emirates.

The clash takes place on Sunday afternoon with kick-off scheduled for 13:30 (GMT).

Arsene Wenger and his side are currently focused on winning the Europa League as it is their only remaining route to playing Champions League football next season.

West Ham come into the clash with a three-game unbeaten record. The Hammers can all but guarantee their spot in the Premier League next season.

Arsenal team news:

January signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan is unlikely to be risked this weekend despite making a speedy recovery from a knee injury.

The Armenia international suffered a ligament injury earlier this month with Arsenal fans fearing he would miss the remainder of the season.

However, Wenger has confirmed that Mkhitaryan has returned to training and that he could be fit for the Atletico Madrid tie.

“Mkhitaryan is running again,” Wenger stated at the pre-game press conference.

“He has to progress in the next three or four days to see how much intensity he can have in his training sessions.

“Possibly Thursday is the earliest I think.”

In positive news, Wenger revealed that Aaron Ramsey has returned to light training and is expected to be fit for Sunday’s clash.

Mesut Ozil – who was rested last weekend – is also expected to return to action this weekend.
