Arsenal take on Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-final first-leg on Thursday evening.

The Gunners will be desperate to win the competition in order to send off their long-serving manager Arsene Wenger on a high. Wenger released a statement on Friday confirming that he will step down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season.

Winning the Europa League is also Arsenal’s only route to playing UEFA Champions League football next season.

The Gunners are coming off the back of a 4-1 win over West Ham United while Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw but Real Betis on Sunday.

Arsenal team news:

Star playmaker Mesut Ozil missed Sunday afternoon’s clash due to an illness. It is still unclear whether the Germany international will be fit and ready for the mid-week clash.

Meanwhile, midfield duo Mohamed Elneny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been ruled out of the Atletico Madrid clash with injuries.

Jack Wilshere has been receiving treatment for an ankle injury and is a slight doubt, however, Wenger is hopeful of the England international’s return against Atletico.
