Arsenal transfer news: Euro giants suffer transfer blow as West Brom swoop for England international

West Bromwich Albion have completed the transfer of defender Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal.

The news comes as a blow to Galatasaray who were also in talks with the England international.

According to ESPN, West Brom struck a £7 million deal with Arsenal for the 27-year-old left-back. Gibbs has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the Baggies keeping him at the club until 2021.

Gibbs graduated from the Arsenal academy and spent 13 years at the north London-based club.

West Brom confirmed the transfer on their official website. Gibbs stated that West Brom manager Tony Pulis was a major factor behind his decision to join.

“I spoke to him and have always been impressed by him and how he goes about his work,” Gibbs told West Brom’s official website.

“He’s different to what I’ve had before and I feel he can develop me in certain areas I may be need work on. He can help me progress.”

Gibbs made 230 appearances for Arsenal since his League Cup debut in 2007. The Gunners take on an out-of-form Bournemouth on September 9 as they look to return to winning ways.

West Brom meanwhile face newly promoted Brighton as they look to maintain their unbeaten record.
