Arsenal have been ‘backed into a corner’ over Mesut Ozil’s potential new contract, according to the Mirror.
Per-the-source, the Gunners are keen to tie Ozil down to a new deal and are willing to increase his wages up to £140,000-a-week.
The north London based club have been involved in negotiations with Ozil several months. The 27-year-old’s current deal expires in July 2018.
However, Toni Kroos’ bumper new deal with Real Madrid has caused a major headache Arsenal. The Germany international put pen-to-paper on a new six-year deal worth £180,000-a-week after tax.
Ozil currently earns less than a host of his international teammates which include, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Philipp Lahm, Ilkay Gundogan and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The report states that Ozil wants a new deal on par with his international teammates.
The 27-year-old recorded his first assist of the season last week and Arsenal fans will be hoping he can carry his form into the Gunners’ clash with Swansea City this weekend.
