Former Arsenal stars Mathieu Flamini and Emmanuel Adebayor are set for a surprise reunion at Rizespor after striker a deal with the Turkish minnows according to manager Hikmet Karaman.
“We reached an agreement in principle with both players,” Rizespor coach Hikmet Karaman told Anadolu Agency.
“They’ll come to Rize within a few days and the last step of negotiations are going to be done.
“This is down to everyone devotedly working to finish the deals, so I have to thank the board of directors and our president.”
Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik reports that Flamini and Adebayor will earn £1.7 million per-season each making them the highest paid members of the Super Lig outfit.
The report claims that Flamini and Adebayor will arrive in Rize for their medical over the next few days and the club have already started printing club shirts with their names and numbers on the back.
Flamini scored 13 times and provided 10 assists in 242 appearances for Arsenal but was released by the club this summer following the end of his contract – something that probably did not go down well with his good friend Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal forward Theo Walcott summed up the relationship Ozil and Flamini have as being a ‘Flamzil’: “They go to the gym together, have massaged together I wouldn’t be surprised if they even share a house together.”
Adebayor meanwhile previously played for Arsenal but fell out of favour with Gunners fans following his antics at North London rivals Tottenham and Manchester City.
